Jamaica PETS passport

Is Jamaica going to fully adopt this Pet Travel Scheme (pets passport) policy? We are half way in but NOT quite there. Whats the deal. JA is listed as a PETS member but some sites say they only take dogs from the UK...whats the point of being a member if we are not opening the policy? Im in the US right now but want to move home with my dog. Tons of Jamaicans abroad want to move home but don't want to leave their dogs.

I am in the process of moving to Jamaica from the UK (next month) and am bringing my cats with me. My understanding is that Jamaica will still only accept cats & dogs from the UK and nowhere else. Although they are listed as a member of the PETS scheme, this does not really make sense as they will not allow any animals in (including from the UK) that have had a rabies vaccination (which is a condition of the PETS scheme). Luckily my cats had not been vaccinated so they will just have a 14 day quarantine, but it does mean that if I want to bring the cats back to the UK in a few years time they will not be allowed back under the PETS scheme so will have 6 months quarantine at this stage!
I think its madness too, but I don't think there are any plans to make changes at the moment!

Is there any up to date information available for this? I want to move to Jamaica with my cats, but I think they have been vaccinated against Rabies, does this mean that I can't take them? There is very conflicting information on the internet so am looking for some help!

Having spoken with DEFRA, it looks like you can import cats and dogs from the UK and Ireland only, providing they have not been vaccinated against Rabies. If you meet these requirements, then the animals will only have to endure 14 days quarantine. The information is misleading, so I went to Defra and they were able to send me all the application forms and to clarify the situation.

Jamaica has left the PETS programme as one of the requirements is for all animals to move via the scheme to have been vaccinated against Rabies, therefore conflicting with a lot of information found on the internet.

Hope this helps to clarify,

Sam
