Hi everybody,
I will be relocating from the US to Mo-bay in July 08. If you have any information about affordable private schools, or really good public schools, please touch base.
Thanks a bunch, Tracey

There are plenty of private schools in Mo-bay starting at 300US to about 700US per term with book and uniforms extra. All schools in Jamaica wear uniforms the color depending on the school. Boys generally wear khaki. High school starts at the 7th grade in Jamaica and they have all girls high school and all boys high school which are also private. The public schools I wouldn't attend. My advise is to take your kids along with you when you visit the different schools. Schools are out for summer break usually the first week in July and starts back the first week in Sept. I think your final decission might be based on price and location..

Hi Carol,
What's the reason for not attending public schools? Are they all really dreadful? Can you recommend a specific school?
Thanks, Tracey

Public school are overcrowded and might be quite a culture shock for your kids. You would have to visit to see the conditions for yourself. What are the ages of your kids? Mount Alvernia High is a catholic girls school located at city center area. There is Montego Bay High, another all girl high located on union street, Hosanah Prep also on union street as well as Montrgo Bay Christian Academy. In RoseHall you have the Heinz Simonitch Prep., which is from kindergarten to high. In Coral Gardens there is Team Works Academy which is also from K-12.

Hi Carol,
Thanks for the information. I really appreciate it! You've been a big help! :) Do 11 year olds start high school in Jamaica, or is there a middle school for 6th graders? If so, do you know of any private schools for 6th graders?
Thanks, Tracey

Hello, I too will be moving to MoBay in July. From what I understand there will be a new Montesorri school opening in Sept.. My husband has a job starting in July, and I will follow with my son a few weeks later. Would be great to go through this process with someone friendly?

Hi, I am considering moving to Jamaica within the next year. I'm not sure which part of the island I will be living but it would be helpful if you can let me know which part in Mobay is safe and any other information that may be helpful

Hi there,
How old is your son? I am moving to Mo Bay in August and my almost 5 year old son will be attending Heinz Simonitsch in Sept. I was given the name of a daycare for my 2 year old but have not contacted them as yet as I would like to see the place before I decide to enrol her.

I'd recommend Mt. Alvernia High, it's an all girls high school in Montego with really great reviews.
