Hi, myself and my husband are relocationg to Kingston in April for 3 years as I have accepted a job there. I am trying to find out as much information as possible before we go and would love to get in touch with anyone who can help us.
We provisionally have a house provided from my company in Long Mountain, but I can't find much about this on the internet - is this area ok?
My husband does not have a job yet (he is an electrician) so any suggestions on job agencies/recruitment sites would be great.
We are both in our early 30s with no kids and have a great social life in the UK. Can anyone tell us where the best (and safest!) places to go so we can meet new friends.
Many thanks, Jane

Hi Jane,
I'm Randi, I am Jamaican, my husband is English and we both live in Jamaica. I would be happy to give you advice about living in Jamaica.
First off as a real estate agent i can tell you that your going into a very new and well kept neighbourhood. Long Mountain Country Club is atop Beverly Hills so you will have a lovely view of the city, access to a pool and a mini convenience store. security is tight and effective and it is overall a very pleasant place to live.
Your husband can check out splashjamaica.com and caribbeanjobs.com...they arevery good job sites.
There is a relocation company here run by two very lovely women from Ireland who may be able to help you further, relocation-jamaica.com
Apart from that myself and my husband are happy to answer any questions you may have. There are various associations you can join, geoff (my husband) runs a day of issue international newspaper service, so you can receive your newspapers when you want( Observer, gaurdian, mail), that also means that he knows many of the expats on the island so that may help socially, the british high commission has monthly events and there are lots more thigs to do and see. good luck and we hope to here from you

Thanks Randi, you have really helped put our minds at rest, particularly about the area in which we will be living, and the 2 recruitment sites look helpful as well.
I have a question about healthcare - as part of the job we get private healthcare, but do we still need to register with a local doctor and dentist (like we would in the UK) as well? Are there any surgeries you recommend?
Many thanks, Jane

the healthcare system in Jamaica is different to the UK, You can go to any doctor you choose at any time however i recommend Dr Suzanne Minnott- Arscott, she is located in Seymour park which is a business complex close to where you live. Dr. Arscott deals with many expats who come to her from all over the island (believe me that says alot) As far as dentists go, we visit a dentist in Portland which is a 2 hr drive from kingston, however he was born and educated in germany and has the most state of the art practice on the island, his name is Dr.Eric Hudecek info@modern-dentistry.de
