Advice on move to Kingston

Hi there,
My husband and two small children (3yo & 1yo) are planning a move to Kingston in early 2012.
Just wondering about a few things, namely good preschools, nice places to live (friendly) and what is the social scene like?
While I have learnt a few things about areas and schools, the info is quite old so not sure if its still true!
Whilst obviously we want our family to be safe, we would hate to be locked away in a gated expat community that effectually kept us away from having anything to do with locals. And the same for schools too. We really want to enjoy a new lifestyle & meet new people.
As an expat wife I'll be unable to work so am not sure what people do during the day, if kids are in school?
Also any tips, hints on what to bring with us and what to definitely leave behind? Clothing, household stuff, toys, books etc.
Any opinions, advice, help would be great please.
Thanks a mill.

We have been looking at Kingston also to move to. My husband is retiring in 4 years, so we have seriously been considering going over to check things out. We live near St. Louis, Missouri now. It would be nice to meet others there and do some sightseeing. Your question about what to bring and what not to bring is a good one. I am sure by this time, you and your family has moved already, so any information you have would be appreciated. Thanks, Sunnie
