Work Permit Police Records

I'm proposing to travel to Jamaica in the summer to do some volunteer teaching work. I'm told that if I'm staying any longer than one month that I will need to apply for a work permit (I am an Irish passport holder) The problem is that I have two previous convictions for DUI in 2003. I was fined and banned from driving but not jailed. Since that time I've turned my life around, given up alcohol completely and have no subsequent convictions. Could I be refused a work permit if these are included on my police report? The rules seem to be pretty strict.
