Safest places to live

Hello,

I'm a Jamaican & US Citizen. I've lived in the US for 40 years, but visit Jamaica every year for vacation; mostly in Mo-Bay, Ochi + Negril in the resort areas. I'm looking on purchasing a vacation home, which may eventually become my primary home. I do know about the challenges faced by the country and the crime. I know that crime can happen anywhere, but I need to get a few advice on which parish/community is the safest to live. I'm originally from Clarendon, but I've been discouraged by family & friend from going back there.

Hi. We live in Westmoreland near the sea and have a wonderful community. We came home 10 years ago after 30 years away, the last being Atlanta. Feel free to contact me at the email.

Hey Winsome, how are you? I would advice you like your family not to consider Clarendon. Last time I checked Clarendon had the highest crime rate which is unbelievable. I'd suggest the north coast. I'm moving to St. Ann in a gated community. Are you looking to build or buy so I can make suggestions.

Hello lala,

Although I know it's cheaper to build, we're going to have to purchase as we don't have anyone reliable to oversea building a home. My roots is in May Pen Clarendon, & most of my family migrated years ago, I still have some down there. But the crime rate down there is no laughing matter, so I know living down there is out of the question. A gated is what I'm looking for.

Hi Southseapark,

Thanks for your response. We were in Negril last year & had someone showed us around a few areas there & also in the White house area. I like the place. The only thing is that what they showed us was out of our budget. I think they thought we were millionaires.

Winsom, let me tell you something. We lived in a very nice area of Mobay where most of us there are returning residents but the rrate of burglary was horendous so we had to pack up and move to May Pen where we never wanted to live before. And guess what, we left the country shortly after we moved down to May Pen and when we came back the house was intact no probs. So i would say really that one need just pray to God for protection, thats it. Bless you

Hey Winsome,

My uncle moved to May Pen from London and he was shot and killed by some kids in the area that he used to help out. For me that place is a no no. Are you planning on visiting any time soon? I had a contractor do mine from scratch and he did a phenomenal job, I could recommend him. Here's also a website you can check out for a gated community,it's www.richmondjamaica.com. Hope this information was helpful. Should you have questions, feel free to hit me up.
