Canadian Relocating to Jamaica

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping someone will have some advice, recommendation(s), or anything that may help me.

I am planning on moving to Jamaica with my boyfriend (I am Canadian and he is Kenyan - living in Kenya). What I am wondering is if I get a job and we both go there (he on a visitor visa - upon arrival - he doesn't need one prior) and me on a work permit, how long can a visitor stay in Jamaica. I know that upon arrival typically (but not guaranteed) a 90 day visa is approved, and to extend this by another 90 days, one must do this prior to the initial expiry. My question is - can a visitor renew past 180 days? Or if they leave Jamaica say for 2 weeks, can they re-enter fresh and receive the 90 day visitor visa and then can apply to extend?

Bottom line staying in Jamaica longer than 6 months?

Our plan is to relocate to Jamaica for 1 year or more and if one of us is not able to obtain a work permit, what problems will we face if we go there?

Or if I do have a work permit, and he cannot obtain a work permit, is there an alternate option that will allow him to stay longer? ie. Alien status?

Thank you much in advance for taking the time to help me out!

Cheers!
