Hi I know this maybe a hard topic for some of you that may have experienced first hand domestic abuse. Maybe a member of your family or friend? I have talked to a few women who's Jamaican partners have turned on them. First isolating them and getting very jealous when talking to others. I would like to hear others opinion.

I have never experienced it but I do know it exists in Jamaica. I have seen it with my 2 eyes so many times. Yes they are jealous of friendship with the opposite sex. Majority of domestic abuse isn't reported so the men tend to abuse the power more because they know they won't go to jail for it. Some of the women I'd say love the beating because they wash, cook, and clean for the men as if nothing happened. There are times too that women have taken matters into their own hands and fought back, which can be very bloody, but it's time the men grow up and stop abusing the women.

I know of a woman who was beaten by her husband and dragged behind his car. When she went to the police, they told her to go home and work on her marriage. That pretty much sums up the JA attitude on domestic abuse.

That's truly sad, but welcome to Jamaica. Those are the reasons women sometimes take things in their hands because the law fails to protect them. On the other hand, some cops will take a written statement and ocassionally an arrest is made, but by the next day, the couple gets back together and everything is fine, so the cops see it as a waste of their time. The law in Jamaica sucks, put it that way!
