Hi there,
I know we are all looking forward to the big move to sunny JA :) however, have you thought about what work you will do out there?
I have a few things in mind but not sure which route to take.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Ambitiouslady have you researched your ideas to see if it could work out there? Ive been told counselling is needed out there and anything to do with the tourist industry. I would also look into working with internet based companies that enable you to work from home . All the best with your future plans

Counselling is more than needed. These high school kids have no pride in themselves. They are sexually active, involved in X rated movies, lesbianism, orgy, dance hall, etc, all while wearing their school uniform to show how disrespectful n low life they are. They need prayer, mentoring, guidance n counseling. Growing up I always wanted to be a Teacher or Guidance Counselor, but never pursued it because of my lack of patience. Recently, I was sent a video which had gone viral, involving some high school females with adult males. Everything your mind can imagine took place in that video. The sickest thing was that 2 of the females r sisters n the video was being shot by a father of 1 of the students in the video. This son of a bitch then sold the videos. After seeing this n alot of other videos I know this is where my calling is. I have to help save these kids. These kids needs to be molded and shaped so if u can get into the school system, that's an excellent choice.

If more counseling is needed in JA than, USA--why should I go? Are there any school shootings, movie theater shootings, dead bodies found under basements, coach sex scandals, etc:? If so, I may as well stay here and do the counseling.

No there are no school shootings and such. 1 movie theater shooting occures few years ago n it wasn't involving students. What the students are involved in is lesbianism, orgy, dance hall, etc. If u have a facebook page u can take a look on my page to see some of the videos or I can try to find a link on youtube n post it here. If we come together n help to guide these kids, we can make a difference.

The USA is making what you complain about legal. I won't be going to JA to counsel anyone's children. Much counseling is needed in US. If I were Jamaican, I would be offended.

U have lost me-what is the US making legal? What/why would you be offended? I am not telling you to go counsel anyone's kid as u stated, we were having a discussion regarding job possibilities n the issues I mentioned are problems that 's affecting some of the school systems. I haven't heard of these problems in the private schools. I'm jus trying to understand your point.

Your complaint of "lesbianism"; "lesbianism" is being made legal in US. My point? Don't speak on the malfunctions of anyone's country unless you're there. Address your own.

Would just like to input a little thought in this conversation if I can. My question is if someone chooses to be a lesbian, is that a problem? if so what's the crime?

Sweetheart I'm not complaining, wevr all here sharing facts to like minded people looking to move to Jamaica and seeking information. The best years of my life were spent in Jamaica n I was privileged to have attended hs there. I'ts not about being biased it's real life. America is a country that accepts this but it's considered taboo in Ja. People are disowned by their families for this in Ja. They beat the crap out of people that come out. Read the Gleaner, Observer,Star and u'll see what I'm talking about. I'm proud of Ja so just sharing my knowledge of a country I know extremely well. No heart feelings just reality talking. So is this the reason u wouldn't teach counseling there?

Hey Deep Water, how r u? I'm not saying it's a crime, it's how it's viewed in the Jamaican society. The population there has not accepted homosexuality in any form.

But in ur previous post u stated that because the girl are lesbians, they need counseling, is it that you don't approve of that life style personally, so they should be counseled?

I don't think ur right on this one, if its not accepted then why is it going on? I think Jamaicans say one this in public, but behave totally different in private. I think this is all fueled by some hypocritical double standards, because of religion

I see where u r coming from. My point came across wrongly. My opinion is that kids should be focused on getting their education rather than being sexually involved whether same sex or opposite sex, so they need counseling about the benefits of education, STD's n Teenage Pregnancy. Some of the parents work hard to send their kids to school from hand washing people's clothes, cleaning their houses, farming, selling produce, etc @ the market so it pains my heart when they drop out of school or leave without a high school diploma. 1 of the latest incident involved a 13 year old n a 14 year old arguing @ Anchovy high school n the younger 1 stabbed the 14 year old killing her on the spot. Hope u see my point on the counseling issue

Lol@ Deep Water, the way 1 chooses to live that lifestyle is totally up to them. To each his own. Yes u r right about people doing it privately n religion playing a role.

Hey lala718, Yes, I totally endorse your last post, you explained yourself much better. if your talking about helping young people learn about conflict resolution and sexual responsibilities, I'm 100% behind that kind of counseling. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Deep sea fish swim the deep waters! Shallow sea fish can't manage deep waters! Just saying!

My name is visible. Please don't call me "sweetheart". I am aware of JA's attitude towards gay people. It is not necessary to advise me to read JA's papers--I do. I would much rather communicate with someone already living in JA (now). I'd rather hear the "reality" from that person. Take care

Hello everyone, I'm a local I'm on here because I have furnished apartment renting and also some town houses in the mandeville area soon to be completed and put on the market (just stating my purpose here if anyone is wondering). I came across this post and I'm hurt as well as disappointed in the things Lala718 says about Jamaica. Nothing happens here that doesn't happen in other countries. Please bare in mind that our culture is different for that of other countries and so dancehall is a great part of our culture. As it relates to work tourism is definitely the fasted kind of job here. You may consider opening your own business as bring something new or different is well sought after here. Also if you can invest in a restaurant something that does other dishes other than Jamaican dishes would be great business. Goodluck to all wishing to move here hope you find happiness wherever on tha island you choose to stay. And please ignore the negative things being said about my country it is not all bad and kids r not all in need of counselling. Lots of counsellors are here. And Lala718 not everyone here has to wash other people's dirty clothes to send their kids to school, I believe domestic work is performed worldwide. Goodluck again everyone

Hi, I've been to JA 9xs, twice alone and I'm a single woman. I love JA. The vendors do not bother me--just say "no, thanks". I've found no reason to believe the children are in dire straits, and desperately need counseling; especially when compared to children in USA. In USA, children kill their parents, sometimes the whole family. I find "counseling needed" laughable, and the attitude responsible for the world"s rut. Anywho, I plan to move to JA , very soon. I'm looking at Ochie and MBay. I've heard of Mandelville. Do you have pics of the properties?

Thanks sashylinks well said it's always easy to find the flaws which i'm not saying should be ignored. Dancehall is our culture take it or leave it. Most on this forum choose to move to Jamaica you weren't forced to whether it's for a man/woman, life style or education. I'm all for the development of Jamaica but problems that lala pointed out happens everywhere. Jamaica is smaller which makes it more noticeable. So any expertise you have to contibute we welcome it. As for kids needing God Jamaica is the most religious island I know that still didn't stop some of these kids from acting out did it?. Don't believe that's the angle we should spend our energy on just a thought.

Hi Thanks for your post. I have a question regarding the "apartment renting" you mentioned. In the past I have owned income property (condo) which provided much financial freedom. I am currently a (mature) graduate student but am interested in owning again. That said, I am toying with the idea of purchasing a condo for the purposes of short term and long term rentals when not on the island. Would you have any leads in this regard? Ideally $50-90K, 1-2 bedroom /1.5bath within walking distance to a beach. I am quick handy so it doesn't need to be move in ready. Are homeowner association fees common in JA? Are you able to make referrals to property attorney, real estate agent and anyone who can explain the home buying process for a foreigner. Sashylinks, thanks in advance for any advice you may be able to share. Kind regards, JABound
