Bringing in UK electrical appliances

Hi, we are relocating to Kingston within the next couple of months from the UK. We're trying to fathom out whether larger electrical appliances bought in the UK will work on the JA electrical voltage. We know from previous experience that small items will work with an adaptor but would a washing machine or fridge or a/c unit work or would we need transformers? We would really appreciate any advice from any UK expats as it is doing our heads in trying to decide what we could or should bring with us! Thanks in advance. Cessj

Hi,

I don't know too much about how well UK electrical s working in Jamaica. However sending electrical items is really expensive and not worth it to ship

I had appliances from the USA, and they worked. I don't think appliances from Europe would work. As the previous poster remarked, it's going to cost a lot to ship. Check the Gleaner for used merchandise, you might be able to pick up a good fridge and stove for not too much that actually works there.

I did think that it would be very expensive to bring in electrical appliances and the responses here confirm my beliefs so I will be purchasing in JA...thanks to those of you who took the time to respond...

I moved to JA 2 years ago from the UK, once you get were your living wired to 220 voltage it should work. I suggest your fridge would work, washing machine is a no no. TV is a no no, deep freezer should work., Microwave would work., blender, toaster , kettle would work.
Do not bring no games they.would not work.
Most new built properties in JA are wired for 110 or 220 voltage.
