Ok, so please be gentle with me as my husband and I have done little research on making a move to Jamaica. My husband and I and our children would be relocating to Jamaica from the United States. My husband has Numerous years in law enforcement experience and I myself have nursing and laboratory experience. We would both truly love somewhere near the beach if not ON the beach. I'm just looking for a little feedback on things like living expenses for renting or owning a 2 + bedroom home/apartment/townhome and average kinds of living expenses we may incrue living here, areas that we may need to stay away from with children but also what areas may just be appealing to our family. Any and all help and advisement would be dearly appreciated. Thank you so much!!

Can you tell us if you and your husband are quitting well paying jobs and moving? Are you Jamaican nationals? You ask for advisement: here it is: take a long vacation in jamaica with your kids, keep your jobs, and wait until you have a retirement income to make the move. It is obvious you have not done the research on the lack of opportunities to "get jobs" in jamaica. Sorry to be so harsh, but you have two kids to think about.

Unless you are a Jcan National, you'll have a hard time finding a job. You'll need work permits and that will be very hard to get unless you're working with a company that's already here and is relocating you to the island.
Do as the above poster suggested...take a long vacation and see how you like it. You can find plenty of short term rentals...homes, villas and/or apts...so you can get the idea what living in JA is like.
If you have enough cash to live on, then come on down. If you 'need' to work...you 'need' to do some more research

Its a great idea to think of island living and it can be lovely.. however you do have children ..you need to do research, I would say you have to find a good school, then plan where to live near there. Jamaica can be wonderful. It takes money to enjoy all the things you may want in housing. Jobs may be scare I don't think for people with education and experience If you are not a national, start your research with the Embassy. Good luck!

Come down for a little while, check out the 'livity' (way of life) down here and then make an informed decision. We can offer a good deal for a great little place in Negril...
