Moving family to Jamaica

Hello all.
So, I'm spending another sleepless night trying to find the answer to a question that doesn't seem like it'd be that difficult.
Is Jamaica safe for my family to live?
Luckily I found this forum to ask the question that I'm sure everyone is tired of hearing.
My apologies in advance but here's the backstory---
My husband has no choice but to move back home and I'm trying to keep my family together. I have two sons who adore their father who is the most engaged dad I've ever seen. (Boarder line helicopter parent, ok not boarder line:). I have the luxury of having a career that allows me to travel/vacation up to 6 months a year so I can still make a decent living in the states. My father is Jamaican also but I'm not a citizen and I know it's hard to find a good career, so I consider myself lucky. We are looking at gated communities, resort type, with security ect. (Richmond Eststes, Drax Hall, Harland Estates, Coral Springs, ect...)
My heart tells me it's going to be okay maybe even wonderful.
But then my head has me googling crime reports and forums I'm terrified. Is it that bad to move home? We are not flashy people and I've never had a problem in Jamaica before but it's only been weeks at a time.
Any advice? Communities? Schools? Healthcare? Cars? Or even jobs (he's a personal trainer by trade and hotel front desk manager by experience)
Much appreciated
Thank you!

Hello MrsMaxi,

Welcome to the Forum, first and foremost this site will bring you information on personal experiences and also lot of hear-say. My word of advise to you is "follow your heart". Your family relationship is obviously very important to you. You already have one of the most important aspects of this change in your favor "job". Jamaica like all the other countries I have resided in have it's fair share of issues, never, let anyone tell you otherwise, all is not wine and roses, so be smart and be prepared to make adjustment which can sometimes be literally maddening. Choose wisely in everything you do, expect to slooooow down to almost a crawl with everything you do, especially in the business field. Jamaican people just do not like to rush or be rushed. Seek information wisely, you may get several answers for the same questions, Chose to reside in safe communities, keep in touch with your neighbors when it comes to simple matters such as hiring help, places that are considered safe for your family and such matters they are the best sources. All in all most people are helpful and mean well. I wish you all the best with whatever you decide.

Hi Mrs. Maxi

Nothing to worry about. Crime is everywhere n based on your description of not being flashy, u will be just fine. What are the ages of your kids so I can better help you with schools. Also, I own a beautiful home in a gated community for rent. Pm me your # and I can give you details. It is listed with a realtor.
