HI,
I'm moving to Jamaica in 4 days and have heard quite a lot about safety issues and cost of living?
My rent is 115,000.00 JMD a month for a 2 bedroom.
Is that too much?
How much does groceries cost in Jamaica?

Congrats on the move and Welcome! We're in Mobay so not that familiar with Kingston real estate & prices although J$115K a month seems high but depends on location and of course the apartment/home. We have a very nice 2 bedroom / 2 bath in Westgate Hills and is only J$60K a month. (as nice as I had in Fort Lauderdale and paying $1800 a month for.)
As for groceries it all depends on how many people and your food likes. On average we spend about J$10K - J$12K a week for the 2 of us and that does include a couple bottles of wine, chicken, beef, pasta, vegetables, etc.

Yes.. Too high, I haven't been back in a few years.. I tend to stay out of Kingston and rent in the most rural areas.. Groceries tend to run the same or more than U.S.. Prices... Even though the exchanges rate looks good ( US dollars to Jamaican) their inflation rate is outrageous..

As for me.... Survival in Jamaica requires a Jamaican friend or two... I found the most loving people very willing to help..
