My friend will be doing the majority of driving...how does insurance and licencing a vehicle work in Jamaica, my friend is a resident of Jamaica. My bank account is in Canada. ..so purchasing a vehicle what is required? Certified cheque???

Welcome to the Forum!

See my previous Post/Thread (may have to copy & paste the link) and near the end I talk about our experience. http://www.expatexchange.com/expat/index.cfm?tpcid=3408922&dbname=ee&frmid=233&forumid=0&shared=N&skey=Car

As for your friend driving the car, they can be named on the policy. Will require a valid driver's license (Jamaican or foreign)

If you have additional questions let me know.

Most places will accept a manager's check or cash. To get a manager's check it's best you go talk to the banks directly, I can recommend First Global Bank (at Manor Park for example). I'm sure they will help you. However be careful when buying the vehicle, there are a lot of dishonest people at work in that sector. In my experience, they wanted to trick me and sell me a 2007 car as a 2008 model, then they wouldn't free up the vehicle even though they received the manager's check already, just a lot of headache before I actually could drove out the car.
In the end though, I got a quite good vehicle at a reasonable price (unfortunately cars do generally cost too much in Jamaica).
Good Luck

Thankyou for the reply..Previously I have looked into used vehicles..very high priced!A Jamaican resident had advised me to be very careful and to buy outside the area u live in..in Jamaica people sometimes sell u a vehicle ..make up an extra key..if they know where you live..come and take the car shortly after you purchase it..so be careful when purchasing used cars.Take care out there
