School for autistic child

We are thinking of moving to Jamaica due to my husband's job, but the deciding factor would be if we can find an appropriate school for our son. He is ten years old and has mild autism and learning difficulties. He also has sensory processing disorder. Is there anyone who can advise on schools there for him? Thank you!

I knew of a school of hope what they called it in Jamaica. One is in st Ann's bay and you'll find a few throughout Jamaica but to me, the best way to help your child is to have someone came to your house to help. Some patient teachers or special needs teacher. I am going through the same thing but I've found a solution. I will be in Jamaica soon.

Thank you very much for your reply. It is much appreciated.

My husband has had the job interview now and we are still waiting for an answer if he will be offered the job or not. We did think another solution might be to live in Central Florida whilst he works in Jamaica, but that would mean the children spending way too much time away from their dad, which would not be good for any of us.

I appreciate what you are facing and the decisions you have made for yourself (as we all know, every child is different), but I don't think home schooling would be a good idea for my son. For an autistic child, he is very social and likes being around other kids. He really enjoys his school (he goes to a special needs school here in the UK).

I have had a look on Google, but found very little useful information about the schools there. I worry that a special needs school there might not be appropriate for my son as he is rather high achieving but not so much that he can cope with being in a mainstream school.

But I will have a think about your advice and discuss this with my husband. Again, your feedback is very much appreciated and I wish you the best of luck in your move to Jamaica.

Kind regards

Thank you. I am not moving definitively, I am going for a visit but will moved to live in the future when my husband get his retirement. I knew being far from one another is the hardest thing, so it will be good if you guys got the opportunity that you all go together. In Jamaica, schools are not the same as in Europe , as for your son, he could go at a regular school at the same community that you'll choose to live in Jamaica. We both are going through the same thing because my son now, he's in a good school , and that's another reasons why I cannot consider a permanent move right now, but I will be down there soon for 3 weeks to see how things are to get a better understanding.
