" Hello, I''m moving to Tokyo early January next year. I''ve hear a lot of good things about Yoyogi and Hiroo. Can someone tell me abit about the Omotesando area? Regards, Adde Tjernberg.. "

" Adde, Omotesando is a very popular and fashionable shopping area with many small cafes. Unfortunately, it is usually very crowded on the weekends with shoppers and tourists, so I can''t say it would be the ideal place to live (depending on what you are looking for). Aoyama and Nishiazabu are also nearby there and may be more relaxed than Omotesando. Let me know if I can help any more. Patrick (ps I assume you are working for Ericsson on the JT IMT-2000 network...) "

" Adde, Patrick''s right. There are small apartments tucked in the backstreets of Omotesando but their rents are high because of the location. Hiroo is another high-rent area because it''s a bit more upscale and has a higher foreigner population than other areas. I live in Yoyogi, not far from the park. My immediate surroundings are pretty lousy but it''s a convenient area. If you want upscale Yoyogi, go to Yoyogi Uehara. It can be a bit pricey but less so than Omotesando. Also lots of foreigners and friendlier attitudes among landlords and real estate agents. (Be prepared for discrimination in Japan. Any landlord can say ''no'' on the sole basis that you''re a foreigner and there''s not a damn thing you can do about it...) "

" Hi I live in Omotesando as it is close to the British School. This is what I like about living here: - the street scene - funky and hip to arty to well heeled to barbie fashion. - the cafes - I can cycle or walk everywhere - I have a choice of supermarkets that cater to my foreign needs - there is gap, jigsaw with clothes in my size - I can walk to shibuya, children castle and children hall What i dont like: - weekend crowds "
