Hi hope all is well, i noticed so many people post on here with few reply's so im making this my first since i just joined.
Amman is a very nice place to live in, there are no restrictions and the night life is exotic with restaurants, pubs, bars, discotheques, cinemas and everything you can think of except strip-bars...but there are shallow bars with a few prostitutes as waitress'....lol
The lifestyle is pretty good with a large variety of choices. People here are friendly but unlike egyptians they humor and a smile is rare...and jordanians would admit that about themselves.
As an employee you need to get a contract because the labor law here is in favor of the employee. If your contract states a period of time and you are released from duty before the contract expires by law you are entitled to a compensation equal to salary times the remaining number of months in the contract. You will pay an income tax, social security (5% and the employer 11%). Medical insurance is very organized and beneficial.
Its a winter country so you will need a budget for diesel for heating. Car fuel is expensive, and house rent is okay.
You will need a budget of around 70JD (100$) monthly during winter months for diesel heating system. Depending on what car you drive a budget for fuel is needed. I drive a trailblazer 4200cc and i spend around 450$ monthly on fuel. It's almost 90 us cents per liter. Depending on the area rent varies from 250JD to 800JD. Food is ok but some things can be expensive depending on the harvest season.
But all in all you will enjoy being in jordan, many things to do and many places to visit, ive been here for four years and its been a blast but i think 3-5yrs is enough since its a fairly small country.
