My self and a Friend will be in Jordan in Aqaba early next month, we are looking to work or bring our business with us. were should we look, what should we do?

If we are able to bring our work with us then we would need to ship a large container, before we ship a container do we need to have an established residency? if so how do we do this?

any and all help will be grateful. thank you.

Hi,

Unfortunately, your question about "were should we look, what should we do" is very vague. It would depend on the type of business.

One thing that I can tell you is that starting up a business in Aqaba is a bit different than anywhere else, at it is a tax-free zone... but there are special laws that must be complied with to open a business.

As for the shipping of your container, there definitely has to be someone on the "receiving end" in order to ship it here. If you do not have a friend or family member here already, and no address, I think you will have a hard time shipping.

Best of luck to you!

Hi there - I wonder what you mean when you say you are bringing your business? Friends of mine shipped the contents of their home to Amman last year and unfortunately all containers are subject to import tax so whatever you bring in will be taxed whether new or second hand. I cannot guide you on the amount I suggest you contact Customs at the Port but on some items sold in Jordan import tax can be as much as 100%. Best wishes on your move

Jeanette, and in this case - if he is coming through Aqaba - the laws will again differ. It is a tax and duty free zone.

Considering all of the complications, it is best that he consult an attorney before making this move.
