a sad and disturbing story...

Hello... I am an american woman who is planning on moving to Jordan this year. So, I have been doing some research and alot of reading about Jordan and the middle eastern culture. But, so little is ever written about Jordan on this site, I decided to do some reading about Egypt. Thinking I would find some helpful information. What I came upon was a very disturbing post written from a woman who teaches in Egypt and her bad experience there. The post is titled "Egypt Forum - I Wish I had Known... Before Moving to Egypt". And following here post are many comments who confirmed her bad experience. I have to confess I am very sad reading this news. I want my life in Jordan to be a wonderful one. Full of happiness, peace and adventure. I love the middle eastern culture.

I would like to hear from American woman or men who live in Jordan or have lived there. Please tell me your experience with the culture and the people. Please be honest. I need a clear view and understanding of what others have experienced.

Thank you.

Hello :) having read your post, I can tell you that Jordan is a very beautiful and hospitable country whether as a visitor or a citizen. I was born and raised in Canada, my nationality is both Jordanian and Egyptian, and have been going to Jordan yearly. I even have considered moving there permanently. I recently bought a place in Amman. That being said, whike your concerns are valid it applies with any country that as long as you conduct yourself and treat others with respect, you will gain friendship and people there will be glad to direct and help out. You always need to be careful in dealing with anyone, but Jordan is a very stable country and governance. Very culture rooted people and a country that is still growing, many great opportunities!! I think u will love it there, good luck and best of wishes and plz consider me ur new friend :)

I agree completely with the person who responded to your post. I am an American woman married to a Jordanian, and just got home from living and teaching in Amman for a year. You will love it if you keep an open mind, and don't fall into my mistake of always comparing it to your home country lol. I found Jordan to be extremely safe , politically stable, and easy to navigate alone. I answered the woman in the post about a bad living experience in Egypt, so feel free to read that if you'd like more information. Good luck. You will have the time of your life!
