Moving soon to Almaty.
Is there an expat community or even a German Stammtisch? Can someone recommend me international relocation companies? And to minimize pollution , where should I start to look for a nice flat/house. Any other advice that may help me to get aquainted there ? Thanks a lot ! Dietmar

Yes there is a very active expat community here, centered around the Almaty International womens group see
http://www.almatyclub.org and despite its name it includes men. There is a newsletter plus a lot of networking. There is a German group with in it. To reduce the pollution you need to live up the slope to the south of town towards the mountains a popular area is Gorney Gigant or Koktobe 2 but then you really need a car. The driving is a lot worse than the pollution
