Hi! I was in Uralsk twice last year to do teacher training seminars. (I was based in Atyrau). I didn't have a lot of time to experience what the city has to offer, but I did get invited to a large park where locals go for strolls and ride the ferris wheel. It was great... I loved Uralsk, because It's a much more interesting city than Atyrau, with a richer history, a lot of Russian influence, and very friendly locals.
As far as what you should bring....I would bring a winter coat from home because you can probably get better quality coats for cheaper in the US/UK. And don't bring your own converter-plugs, because they'll be a lot cheaper in KZ. What else? Trinkets from home for your students are a plus...
I'm happy to say that I'll be in Uralsk full-time starting in September, so feel free to contact me!
