Hi all! I am moving to Nairobi in Sept. '08, and am looking to share long term accommodation in a safe neighbourhood close to either my workplace (on Waiyaki Way) or the Australian High Commission (off Chiromo Road). I would prefer a comfortable and furnished apartment, and obviously safety is a major issue. I would prefer if there was the option for visitors (family), such as a spare room/office. I am willing to pay around USD 1000 or somewhere upwards for a nice share place with a suitable housemate. I will be travelling fairly regularly with work. Please let me know if there is anything appropriate!
Cheers! Tessa

Jambo! $1000USD is a lot of money so finding a nice flat should not be a problem at all...I'm not even sure you need to share a flat unless you want a roommate. I would strongly recommend you contact Pauline Mwaura as she helped me tremendously with finding a flat, getting settled, etc. Its part of a service she offers expats coming in. Chiromo Rd. is in Westlands which is a major expat area...you can find a very large one bedroom for 40000KSH (about $700USD) give or take. Make sure you ask about internet fees, SAT TV (very pricey), a lift, security officers, parking, and nearby shopping, etc. that you can walk to. Also make sure you find out if electric, water, gas, etc. are included... Kenya is MUCH more expensive that I ever imagined...it's very similar to the USA. Good luck!

Good advice from LY. I agree that $1000 should be an ok limit for a decent place. Make sure it has do it yourself laundry facilitys as you can get stung on this if not. It might be worth getting a hotel booked for your first few nights here. I strongly advise you view personally the apartment before you commit as there is nothing worse then finding its not "as nice" as in the pics!!!!!! Expect to pay a month deposit and a month up front (the normal). The Sarit Center shopping mall (Westlands) has a really big notice board which has accom as well as other things on it. If you need some ideas on Hotels or even some more advice on accom then feel free to ask me. G

I just landed in Nairobi and also looking for shared housing. I am staying with a friend in South C so I am not in a real rush to find housing. Like most others, I would like share housing (to meet people and keep the price down) in Hurlingham, Westland, etc. I would like to keep it under $500. Any suggestions appreciated...I have posted notices at Yaya, Serit and Village Market, but have not had any luck yet.
