My wife and I are considering a possible job offer from Korea, but are also eager to begin adoption. Are there any Canadians living in Korea that have tried - successfuly or not - to adopt Korean children while working in Korea? What are the obstacles?

Hello,

My wife and I are now in the same situation (except from America).

Were you able to find any information on this matter?

I would recommend to contact one of the official
agencies to handle adoptions in Korea (see below).
The policy in Korea is currently to get the number of foreign adoptions down and rather try to have the children within the country
in order to avoid additional
culture shock.

To check your current chances you should contact:
Eastern Social Welfare Society
www.eastern.or.kr/eng/htm/home.htm
Tel.: 02-332-3941

or

· Holt Children Services
www.holt.or.kr
holtkorea@hotmail.com
Tel.: 02-332-8102

or

· Korea Social Services
Tel.: 02-908-9191

Or contact
GAIPS
(Global Adoption Information & Post Service) ·
GAIPS Organisation
www.gaips.or.kr
Tel.: 02-776-9680-1
Fax.: 02-771-9680
E-Mail: gaipskorea@gaips.or
This organization works together with the above mentioned agencies.

· Overseas Koreans Foundation
www.korean.net
hongjh@okf.or.kr
Tel.: 02-3463-6500
Fax: 02-3463-2666.
The Overseas Koreans
Foundation has a book
“International Korean Adoptee Resource Book”, ISBN 89-959025-0-9,
which might be of interest.

All the best!

Hello Peter: My name is Mabel, I am Argentinean living in South Korea and currently in the process to adopt a child in Haiti.
I am teacher at a school and there are 2 couples here that have adopted kids, 2 each couple. They're from Australia and the kids are between 4 and 7 I think. However, I know that nowadays, Koreans are able to adopt as well and they have priority. Nevertheless, an agency in Canada or a web site about adoption rules in S. Korea will give you the answer.
If you want to be in touch with these couples, I might ask them if they're willing to share information with you. I don't think they will have any problem.
I really hope you can adopt! Please, keep me posted! and if I can help with adoption in Haiti, you're more then welcome!

I hope that you can adopt a child!
