" Joe: Don''t waste your talent on Kuwait, it won''t be appreciated nor used. Of course, if you are into making money and sacraficing your soul go and endure the torture. Most ex-pats that I know end up going to hidden parties drinking homemade booze that tastes terrible and going to doctors for prescriptions to handle the stress. The Finnish doctor that I saw said most patients he sees are suffering from severe stress and he advises them to cut back to a small amount of work that they currently handling. He was getting out himself. The Kuwaitis for the most part don''t work. It''s called a welfare state where they are set up with monies from the Kuwaiti government. Equate Oil company is trying very hard to find Kuwaitis who really want to work. Instead they have to bring in ex-pats to shoulder the load. An actual part of their philosophy is to ""provide employment opportunities for qualified Kuwaitis."" Kuwaitis for the most part feel they are God''s chosen people who must get up late, maintain no work hours, walk around with a cell phone talking with anyone all the time, drink Arabic coffee and tea throughout the day - not while working mind you - only with several other Kuwaitis lounging around. This is sort of like the old water cooler days but the hours are extended to most of the day. It is their duty to waste much of the day talking with each other and yelling for others to get the work done. Many expats from Third World countries are nothing more than endentured slaves who are taken advantage of in many ways - sexually being one. They are often not paid and treated like they are there to totally serve the whimes of the Kuwaiti who owns their civil ID. One can do nothing without a civil ID. I knew several Third World expats who had run away and stayed in hiding, knowing they would be thrown in jail for a week and deported without their belongings. Now some will write and talk about the wonderful hidden pleasures of Kuwait and the travel opportunities. It took an act of God to get out of there for some of us especially when we wanted to travel to the UAE. It isn''t as wonderful as you will be led to believe and the aftershock is a heavy price to pay. In August the temperatures will be 40 C + (130 F)..... akin to walking into an oven. The roads are great just littered with dead cats and tons of garbage in some areas! The driving, a mad road race with no rules. One Pakastani man was recently cut in half by a hit and run Kuwaiti. No big deal, he was only Pakastini and can be replaced. Don''t go unless you are Muslim. The cost of living is high because the Kuwaitis all have dough. There is nothing to do. Read the Lonely Planet. Find the travel pleasures of Kuwait on the internet. We all used to laugh that our fun was built around our weekly shopping trips to The Sultan Center and shop for groceries. Women can''t wear beach attire, they must be covered. I used to see Muslim women swimming in long black robes - boy did they look rediculous. We used to laugh about how much we ate out until we realized we couldn''t get in our clothes. Restaurant food and Arabic food is outrageously fattening. Try spending the night in the desert. First of all, it isn''t recommended for many safety factors. I just never wanted to find those hidden land mines nor chance being accosted. Kuwait lacks beauty, soul, peace, tolerance, fun, fairness, good schools, kindness, morals, truth, but there is or was lots of money in Kuwaiti hands. One must find Canadians, Europenas or Statesiders to tolerate it and sometimes earplugs. The Kuwaitis don''t talk at a normal level with each other. They yell and usually at the same time. Other than these small items, Kuwait is charming....NOT! "
