" I have been contacted by some schools in Kuwait to come right now as they open. Everyone tells me that Universal American School is the worst school in the country, and that American Academy for Girls is right behind it for their turnover in teachers and many problems. Does anyone have any advice about schools in Kuwait??? "

There are many foreign schools in Kuwait and esp. in Salwa. I have been here three years. American A for Girls used to be terrible but it seems to have fewer problems now that they have a lot of Canadians. U.A.S. is still the worst school in the country and the teachers quit every year - don''t go there. Bad admin. Al Bayan also has a lot of troubles due to the director and his wife that have a bad rep. AIS and ASK are okay.

" Everything you''ve heard about UAS is true--the director ( fondly nicknamed Shitmali) is a real tyrant who claims to have a doctorate in Communications, but can barely speak English. He fires his best teachers and keeps only the ones who kiss up to him. He''s even been known to tell teachers at hiring fairs that there is a swimming pool on the roof of the apartments--of course, there isn''t!! Another terrible school is a new elementary one in Salmiya--Kuwait American Academy, run by an Iraqi-Kuwaiti named Wajeehah Habib and with a very porcine Ms. Tina (with only a high school degree) as her ""Head of Kindergarten"" and now promoted to some kind of assistant principal. Both women are vicious liars and Habib stole a lot of money from the teachers at the end of the school year last year. Ms. Piggy managed to get 25 teachers fired. Don''t go to those two schools!!!!! " Beatrice is right about Al Bayan. In addition to a terribly unethical director, they have a PE teacher who wormed her way into the position of Head of English even though she knows nothing about English. I had friends in the English department who saw her get the best English teachers fired by lying about them to the director in order to clear the way for her own ambition to get out of PE. She claimed she was too old to continue as a PE teacher. She also makes a point of hiring only people weak in English so they won''t show her up. Of course, having played up to the director and his wife (who is asst principal at BBS), she is ensured a position at the school forever. Don''t go there. "

" I understand these last comments about Al Bayan as I work there, but really, the students are very nice and the teachers are overall qualified. Yes, the one teacher you mention should not be teaching when she is not certified in anything. Yes, the director and his wife have no idea what they are doing - but the schools in Kuwait are like this. "

" I teach at another one in Kuwait than those two that you mentioned in your letter to this forum. I know the schools are very bad, but we should try to say some good things about them. I know the Kuwaiti directors of those two schools you mentioned and they do not represent all school heads in the country - some of the these heads of schools are very unqualified and do not know how to handle western teachers. Thank you. "

" I do not want to say the name of my school, but I just came this week to Kuwait to teach. We have a campus in Salmiya and a campus in Hawalli and I can see the director and his wife have the teachers by their gonadal organs. The teachers seem very afraid since certain Kuwaiti families seem to run the school and the director and wife lick their behinds. Praise to the Lord Jesus in heaven for this site since teachers can report what is going on here in these schools. The English teachers they have here now cannot teach English at all!!! "

I too have been offferd a job at Universal American School for the fall of 2004. I have not signed my contract yet! Is this school as bad as it looks on here? Is there a place that I can exercise regularly. Are the classes large. Is the school suitable or crowded?
