I hear ya! I used to go to that Starbucks in Salmiya and just sit there with a book. Otherwise try going to the mall in front of Starbucs. Do it in the morning so you will run into westerners that wake up early. There's a coffeeshop in the bottom floor. I met a lot of people there. Good luck!
