Life In kuwait

For those interested in learning about kuwait, I can best describe it as one of the craziest countries I have ever been to. It's like being in the twilight zone. Imagine... a country with a population of 2.7 milliion people with only 916,000 of them being actual Kuwaitis. The rest are all expats from third world countries India, Pakistan, Phillipines, Nepal, Bangladash,Iran.etc. who do all the dirty work (cleaning streets, construction, running all the shops and restarurants, etc. Others come from other arab countries like Lebanon and Egupt. The kuwaitis kicked out 450,000 Palestininans after the first Gulf Wa. They pretty much built Kuwait and ran all the businesses that the Indians and Phillipinos now run. You will see the craziest drivers in the world. Everyday you will see new cars turned upside down and totalled and you wonder how in the heck did that happen. I can tell you stories that you would have to see to believe regarding the driving. The bottom line is... there are two types of drivers in Kuwait ... the ones that have had an accident and the ones that will get into accidents. (BE CAREFUL). Kuwati police don't do anything. They are pretty good at earning the $60,000 salary they get parked on the highways watching the cars flying at 100-120 mph. Kuwaitis are the most arrogant self centered people you will meet in the world. I guess its because of all the money they have. They hate everyone including Americans. Kuwaiti men are like robots wearing their white robes and are in their own world. They hang out together at night strolling the streets at 1030 pm and you ask yourself....why aren't these clowns spending time with their wives and children. Most of the ones that are married all have Phillipino mistresses. The Kuwait women shop all day and night and also don't spend time with their kids. They all have Phillipino or Indian maids to raise their kids. Pick up a Kuwaiti Times newspaper and you will find an article every other day aboutr a Phillipino maid being raped by the Kuwait male in the home and Philipino maids killing themselves because of being abused by the people that hired them. The kids see the maids as their mother. The kids are spoiled rotten and grow up with no ambition because everything has been done for them or given to them.

I could go on and on. Living in kuwait for 6 months now and with another 6 months to go on my contract.

Kuwait will be changing soon for the better as it wants to be like Dubai and Bahrain. Kuwait sees all the money these countries are making in Tourism and now Kuwait wants a piece of the action. Within 2 years you will see alchohol legalized, dance clubs, and ... oh yes... prostitution. I guess Kuwait will be doiing what UAE does in Dubai.... promise Russian girls jobs and force them into prostitution. (Big Business in Dubai.... believe it or not... and the government is in on the action)

Good luck to all those who come to Kuwait. You will be entering the Twilight Zone.

That was my experience as well. I guess the cultural divide is really tough to break! Specially in the Bedouin areas of Kuwait. As a woman, you get to learn how to hide yourself... it's so difficult though. Kuwait is so pretty and their people are so nice yet so DIFFERENT. I must agree that it is truly a twighlight zone. When you think you are part of the "in" group, you realize that you will never ever ever be perceived as part of them and not sure you want to with all of the abuse and family dynamics that go on behind closed doors.

Cameljocky, please go back to your country we don't need your type of people here.
Kuwait prides itself on its heritage, perhaps worth reading the Kuwait pocket guide for an initail introduction. So apart from lots of sunshine I have found dealing with a lot of Kuwaitis to be a worthwhile experience, just got to get used to the bureauocracy. There are good facilities for learning to sail, dive, several social groups were you can meet some quie charming people and engage in all sorts of activities.
The roads are worthy of care, just ignore the aggresive drivers, easy. Last but not least, bear a thought of the local youngsters today who are of driving age but have grown up in a surrounding of two wars, and the iran Iraq war also.
I am sure Kuwaiti people respect those who are trying to help rebuild this country and beautify the environment, and just to finish off and be selfish, stash the cash.
I wouldn't have missed the opportunity of coming here for the world.

Listen man,

Don't tell me to go back to my country. As an American born Arab I have the right to critique Kuwaitis. As an Arab-Ameican I grew up with the Arab culture and from my experiences here in Kuwait I am ashamed to see Kuwaitis act the way they do. They do not act the way the real Arabs in other Arab countries act. Go to Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon and you will meet the real Arab. They are not arrogant, self centered people (except maybe the lebanese) that you find in Kuwait. To all, please don't stereotype your bad experiences from Kuwaitis because they are not real Arabs. One day( in 100 years) when all the oil wells have
dried up will Kuwait be a humble appreciative country.
