my husband will be starting a position in Kuwait shortly,,the kids and i will join him once the school year has ended.......We lived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for a few years and i'd like to know what life will be like in comparison. In Riyadh i was not allowed to drive(i had a driver), had to wear my abaya whenever i was off the compound. No movie theaters, only bootleg DVD's. segregation of men and women in restaurants, etc.......Are there self contained compounds for expats to live on rather than apartments? Villas? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Life is much freeer here than Saudi - you can drive, not cover, join beach clubs etc. There is plenty to do and much depends round the age of your children. All the people I am aware of who have experienced enjoy Kuwait. There are loads of restaurants - no segregation and the supermarkets are geared to American and European merchandising. You can find contained compounds, but they tend to be more apartment complexes. Self-contained villas are popular, safe, often huge and there are arease where you find more expats or areas where locals and expats mix very happily. Contact me on t@paguro.net if you have other questions, I will willingly answer them for you.

I will be looking for a 2/3 bedroom place in the Fintas area or off of 6 or 7 ring. What is some info I will need to know on renting. I'm living north of the city right now and am ready to move closer to civilization. It'll be on my own dime, but having a life will be worth it. Also, what are good ex-pat friendly agencies to use? I'm going to be ready to move in Feb/March. --CHEERS
