Living in Kuwait has it's ups and downs. Driving can be extremely dangerous and most of the Kuwaitis think that they are god's gift to the world having all the oil. That said I met many kuwaits who were kind generous and helpful. Thge weather is very hot I have never seen the weather that bad in my entire life.

I'd also like information on health care costs/insurance recommendations.

I'm in a surprisingly similar situation to Erik001. I'm currently negotiating a work assigment (for a 12 - 18 month duration) in Kuwait. I have a 9-month old daughter whose safety and well-being is obvioulsy my primary concern (well, the wife too ;) ). Any comments/feedback on family life, especially health care for a toddler, would be appreciated.
Cheers,
schmenke

Housing is going up fast in Kuwait so I would be looking at 750KD per month for housing, apartments are nice or villas are available and I would request private health care coverage so that you can choose which hospital / clinic you use and get reimbursements. The healthcare facilities are very good, and peadiatricains well qualified, if not a little different from waht you may be used to. Treatment is rational, not to be compared to the States where many of us feel the Drs are catering to the insurance companies.
Security is fine and little children well catered for with swimming complexes and plenty of playgrounds, good (a little expensive) beach clubs and mothers and toddlers groups / good nurseries.
Driving is the most dangerous thing, but that is the most dangerous thing we all do anywhere! Look at www.paguro.net for the country guide which will give you further help. House help and babysitting is easily available and reliable. All foods and nappies for little ones as well as great clothing and equipment stores. The expat community is as friendly if not more than anywhere in the world.

hello, I've been in Kuwait since April. My husband is working here on a contract also, and we have a 2 & a half year old. Kuwait has its advantages and disadvantages. You can definately save more than in the US, because you don't have as many bills. We pay for our appartment about 400 K,D, which is about 1500$ USD,, u can find more and less expensive. Its pretty secure here, its great when you have babies verses older kids, because you have alot of help for cheap, to have a nany or maid its $250 a month or so, there are daycares here too, not the best, but not bad, for about $300 a month average. food is comarable to the states. I drive here, its a matter of getting used to it really, its much more aggresive than the states, but you will get used to it no problem. hope this helps.

We are also moving to Kuwait within the next few weeks and any information you would have received may be helpful to us as well.
Are you finally in Kuwait? If so, how do you like it thus far?
Thanks for any help!!
Jeff
