Housing in Kuwait ?

My husband has been offered a position in Ahmadi. He is still in the negotiating stages but it looks like it could come to fruition soon. If so, he will be moving to Ahmadi in January 2006 and I will come later. It's just the two of us (children are grown) so schools, childcare and such are not an issue.

The issue I'm concerned about is the housing situation. I've searched the internet several times and can find available apts and houses but can never seem to find pictures of the interiors....aaaargh!!

Can anyone tell me what the houses are like and what you have to spend to get something pretty nice? The company my husband is going to work for will be giving us a housing allowance of approx. KD425 per month ($1445 US). Hope I'm figuring that correctly. :-) Anyway, please let me know if we can get something really nice with that amount or should we expect to pay a lot more. There is only the two of us so we don't need "huge" just clean and "pretty."

I imagine we would live in Ahmadi. I see on maps that Ahmadi is close to Kuwait City but wonder if it's almost like a suburb of Kuwait City where you don't know where one city stops and the other starts. Or is there a definite distance of "out of town" between them? Just trying to get a picture in my mind.

Is Ahmadi a nice place to live? I'm reading a LOT about Kuwait City but haven't seen much on Ahmadi. Is Ahmadi pretty close to the water....I'd love to be able to go to the beach in a matter of minutes. I'd even relish the idea of living along the beach. Are there beachfront communities?

I'm reading a lot of posts asking about maid service. I've noticed a lot of houses and apts listed with a "maids room" in them? Is having a live in maid a common thing in Kuwait? And can you really get them for approx. $100 as someone typed in their post? Now that would be just TOO WONDERFUL!! :-)

Well, I guess that's it for now. Hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks In Advance For Any Help,
kfintex

Just read you message and wondered if you did go. I am currently looking at working in Kuwait. My wife would also join me later. Kids are 17 and 19 and I suspect will only pop over for the beach etc and free hols!
If you did go any chance you could say what you think?
