Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone in Kuwait is worried, or has reason to believe that Kuwait will be affected by the new war in Lebanon and Israel---do you think / have you heard if Iran, Iraq, or Saudi might become involved? I am Canadian and have not been to the Middle East before and am due to move to Kuwait at the end of August.

No worries here. There is one happening on the border north of us and ya know, and it doesn't really affect the everyday worker either. The only thing that worries me is Fox news and CNN scaring everyone at home.

cactusgirl - in my opinion, as long as iran stays quiet, you should be ok in kuwait - there are thousands of expats here and you do have a great canadian embassy here - you can keep up on the local news here by going to www.arabtimesonline.com/arabtimes

I dont think so, but you never know in this part of the world. But overall Kuwait is very safe place I am here since 1999 and in 2005 we made the mistake to leave as we were a bit concerned about the growing danger in Iraq, but nothing had happened and we finally came back. My experience here makes me believe we are somehow safe, if there is a place that can be considered safe at these times:)

Don't go. More danger from Arabs who hate all foreigners and make life miserable for you than from war. Middle east is terrible place to live. I know. I was a visiting prof at universities in Oman and UAE. Money was good, everything else sucked. -- Don Hendon in USA

Sorry, I have had more problems in Europe than in the middle east. I have lived in Oman, Bahrain and now Kuwait and have had no problems, maybe you had some problems, please use an example, but no problems here.

With utmost respect to you and personal experiences, you did not include Kuwait amongst locations not enjioyed. In fact, many Westerners would agree with me on one point here I believe - life here in Kuwait is somewhat different and can be really great! Arriving at the end of August ? Lots of teachers and people working in the private sector return around the same time annually. I am yet to choose the exact end-of-August date but I am arranging a free Ladies' Welcome to Kuwait 'networking evening', with traditional beverages, juices, dinner, dessert and cultural familiarization event. Please tell your female friends they are all welcome, even if they fly into Kuwait just before we dine, lol. Newcomers can meet up with long-term Western residents, make friends, exchange ideas, chat to stay at home mums, business ladies and others employed in various sectors here in Kuwait. Enquiries welcome: english@britishbureaux.com
