Good morning Porch,

This is from my personal Blog, that post was based on a personal circumstances, in the US I used to own my own business, and in the US you could say your mind to anyone, that is how Americans are.
In Kuwait I work for a large corporation and it is stressful somewhat.

In Kuwait or any other non-US country it is not the same case.

You would see things that you might like or agree upon, but that's how things are outside the states.

To some expats these things would be irrelevant, to others it is irritating.
It is what you make out of it.

But all in all, Kuwait is a good place to work for on many levels.

If you are not sure about working in Kuwait, why not come here for a visit first and find for yourself, or maybe have a list of questions I'm sure I or other members can answer them for you.

Cheers,

AIK

well actually :-)

I moved to Q8 end of August and up to now I love it. But what I discovered so far is just simply a black / white picture.

I met many expats telling me how awful and bad it is here. No alcohol, no night clubs, no fun. But on the other hand I met also many telling me how nice and safe it is here. So hardly you'll find some one "average".

Of course Q8 is in some ways strange. The way the "two genders" acts, many stupid younger Kuwaiti men are nuts, the habit of just walking around in the malls showing off, bla bla. But Q8 has also its beauty.

I have met more friends in the 6 weeks being here now than in 1 year back home. I had some real good parties and - of course - went drunk also ... LOL. So it's up to you what you're going to do here.

In general I think that this is a very safe place and nice to make some money. Besides this you have to socialise more intensively than back home and you'll find friends easily. Work is not that bad here and if you're used to work on an average AmericanEuropean level, you'll be far in front of all the lazy Arabs & Asians. Good chance to make career here.

Anyway we should not forget, that the Arab world is completely different. So we have to trade with the special rules and habits over here. Same like we want them to respect our culture if they're staying in our countries, we do have to do the same in their country. And if somebody expects all the same like back home but only "a bit more warmer and more sandy" ... well better DON't COME!

I'm a South African expat that recently spent +3 years in NC/US which took just as long to adapt to - in my case 2 months.
It's all to do with attitude and your personal motivation. Flying back from Dubai this weekend I was chatting to a US citizen based out in Yemen - they have to live in security zones - so it's all relative as well.

Use the time out here to further your life ambitions - physical and mental health - that way you save your money and come out ahead on many fronts.
I'm a tad too non conformist for family gatherings and have been told I'm one of very few european expats that has no transport, and uses buses more than taxi's.
Be that as it may, it's given me an insight into this place that I think many don't get - some good some bad.

It is what it is - and I tend to re-invent my routines constantly to not fall into the same trap that I see many expats do i.e. shuttling between work, home and the malls ...

;-)
