Hello all, my husband is moving to Kuwait tomorrow. I would like to join him along with our two children. He will be working long hours with no time to search for an apartment. He will be working at the air terminal. Can anyone give me feed back on a 3 bedroom furnished apartment. And daycare/preschool. Im so nervous. This is our first time moving to another country. Help.

No. My husband is leaving. He will be staying in housing paid by his employer. Our children and I wont leave until I find a job, a place to live, and child care. Im working on the employment now. My husband wont have time to look for an apartment because he will be working 12 hr. Days 6 days a week. So I need some apartment info name and number. Thank you.

it's best to get an apartment here while here. scouting the neighborhoods for signs, talking to harises (guards) real estate agents will not give you the best oportunities but if your husband can't take a few days off to get you settled you'd be forced to to go to the agents.
what is your budget? look at the newspapers online - arab times, al watan daily and kuwait times

don't consider a furnished aprtment long term - they are too expensive
nurseries range from ok to bad - all are expensive
and without a job in hand, you may not earn enough to pay child care and etc, etc etc. maybe they will work you 6 days week as well. what type of job were you looking for?

My husband should land around 4pm today. I dont know what area he will be in. From what ive read 600 kd is the going rate for rent. 600 kd is like 2400 us money. And we would never pay that at home to rent. I know his company will give him a living allowance. What is the going rate for rent? It is very important that we all be together. I hear cost of living is high. I would love to do office work, ive done that for 10 years. I wont come there without a job. He will be working at the air terminal. Here I would pay almost 200 a week for child care. Is it higher than that? Thanks again.

bilingual egyptian/lebenese get the best office jobs some or split shift unless you have an mba or truly, truly luck out you can expect very few offers - 300-600 kd monthly mountisouri nurseries are the priciest - others maybe 300 a month
be a stay at home home at least for the first year
600 is way high for rent you should be able to get 3-4bedroom FLOOR in a kuwaiti's house for that
you really will face some culture shock here

So you would suggest that my kids and I come there as a sponser. And I be a stay at home mom for the first year? We let our apartment go at home and the kids and I are with my parents. We did that so I can fight harder do what it takes to get us there. Yes I know this we be diffrent but we should experience this as a family. I let go of all my fears. At the age of 29 im still growing up. You said 600 kd is too high, what would you say would be a reasonable price for rent?

I would say its not so scary here. I am here since 88. My kids grew up here and call it home. Two of them settled here and the one in US comes running here on first opportunity. You can rent 3 bedroom flat for KD350 easily. ...and there are many ways to save, don't go by info on net.

your hope to get an office job like one you've had in the usa is slim to none
the job marhket for marginally qualified women is very diffferent than in the usa without an advanced degree , you're basically a teacher's aid unless you maybe, mybe maybe get a job at the military bases which are 48 hours a week with long long drives - do you really want to struggle with that?
you're new to kuwait - settle in and be a stay at home mom you won't even be able to afford 2 cars - which is a necessity if you work
recalibrate your thinking (your thinking about rent budget and furnished vs. unfurnished and where to live show you are woefully unprepared to come and hit the ground running) you're coming to a totally new country they are plenty of stay at home moms - plenty of friends to make and things to do
people here will help you we've seen a lot of people come and go listen to counsel

I am here with my hubby and daughter. When hubby first came, he came without us. On his days off, he would search for apartments and take pictures/video of them and send them to me via email so I could see them as well. This worked out great for us and he was able to get an apartment before we came. He can see apartments at night after work, it's not a problem. It doesn't take long either. They are pretty flexible out here with being able to see apartments at odd times. As for how much you pay in rent, it all depends on where you want to live. I would definitely suggest an unfurnished apartment. You can furnish an apartment fairly cheap here if you get used furniture and there are tons of people who are always moving and selling their things. You can get a 3 bedroom unfurnished for 350 a month! 600 is too high. If he will be working on arifjan, then an apartment in Egaila, Mahboula, Mangaf, etc, would be places he could look for descent priced apartments. As for the job market for you to get a job before you come, unfortunately there are a lot of layoffs going on right now and not a whole lot of hiring so it could take you a long time. If you are able, I would suggest coming out here with your family and being together and you can keep looking while you are here. You and your kids can come out here on a visit visa which is good for 3 months and you can fly to Bahrain or Dubai pretty cheap for the day or night and fly back in country to renew the visa for another 3 months. We did that while we were waiting for our residencies to go through. As for child care, sending your children to schools out here (the descent ones) are going to be sort of expensive but some are definitely worth it. You could also home school if they are older and you choose to do so. If you just need someone to watch your children while you are at work, you can get a nanny here pretty cheap who can either live with you or not. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about being out here with the kids, etc. Just remember that as scary as it may feel, it is what you make it. If you come out here with a positive attitude, you will be just fine. You will meet lots of people from all over the world and it will be a great experience for your family. :)
