Hi I am from Canada and I lived there for 10 months you are perfectly safe the people are very friendly, just keep your mouth shut when you see cops because when they hear your english they will stop you and not let you go till you pay them this country is poor. just do not go out late at night by yourself because you might find yourself in trouble, unless you can speak Russian

Is the undercurrent of hatred ( Uzbek / Kyryg) ancient from clan jealousies / past wrongs and is there any hope for getting to a new place now that this violence has happened ... who has the power to change the hatred now ? Other than provoding humanatarian aid ( VERY NEEDED ) what should the role of US / RUSSIA /UN be in your opinion . The US can not become another " occupier " as we know how well that is received to the countries into which we insert ourselves ...( while our own country is on the brink of imploding ) .... I have always heard that the Kyryg are one of the most hospitable , gracious people --- did Bakyiev pay bucks to stir up some angst filled youth ? Are elections even possible now ? Leaving Aug. 17th to teach in Bishkek.
