Stevie, I am sorry to be blunt, but that is a ridiculous question. I might as well ask "How much is the cost of living in NY?
It depends. What sort of acommodation do you want - anywhere from $USD150 to 4000pm.
What and where do you like to eat? What do you like doing at night? Do you have a car, a bike or nothing?

yes, sorry for the blunt question, but to Answer yours, i like to eat anything and have spent some time near in thailand so the eating isnt a big thing, the what do i like to do at night all depends on the local area, the accomadation i was hoping to find would be a simple apartment with a separate bedroom, or traditional house.

we will be looking for ways of earning a little extra but happy to survive on what the locals do, you may think been a westerner i wouldnt cope but i seemed to have done ok in the past in Na Kae.

Stevie,
the cheapest apartment I have seen recently is a one bedroom with kitchenette for $150pm. Unfortunately housing prices have shot up in the last year. $350 will get you an ordinary house. Look at paying more than $400 for anything decent.
It helps to be here when looking for places, though if you like I can give you the names of a few agents. Obvioulsy if you are happy to live away from the centre, prices drop.

hi there.

if you can survive on noodles everyday, the local food here is not expensive. about 8000 - 15000 kip. once in a while maybe you wanna pamper yourself with some real meaty stuff, it should cost about 40,000 - 60,000 kip. and beer is dirt cheap. i mean, a big bottle of beer lao is 9000 kip, coke is 8000 kip, not a tough choice isn't it :)

as for accommodation, if you have ur own transportation, you can live further away from town. I got a 1 room aprt for 300 USD. but if you wanna live in the town, of cos it's more convenient, but that will cost a bomb, 600 USD and above.

Laos is landlocked and pleasant - for a while.

So, hop on the train in Nong Khai. Go to Hua Hin.
http:/www.thai-rela-estate.info

They have condos for 10.000 USD ++

The beach is long and beautiful and living is cheap.

"HH" is safe clean and there is golf for those who play. Oh, yes there is also the annual Hua Hin Jazz Festival by the beach.

As this person wants to live in Vientiane your post is not particularly helpful. Seriously though, Nongkai!! Thos of us who live here in Vientiane can't wait to get back across the border. Nongkai is a boghole - boring as anything and with lousy food.

The following are estimates of how much things cost in Laos. The cost of living in Laos depends on where you live. The following prices are in Lao kip and also USD and reflect the cost of living in Vientiane only. Things will be cheaper in a small town and villages throughout the country.
