Hi to all,

I find the forum useful and have fiollowed some discussion threads already. I am consideting rellocation from the US to Lao smwhere in October with an international organization. I will move with my spouse and son. Two questons :
- How easy is it to get employed by an NGO there. My spouse has a long NGO career.
- How easy to raise a 8mth old. Can u find basic stuff for babies in Lao. I.e. can u find baby food / diapers, etc???

Grateful for your insights.

Best

We have a 7 month old. You can get everything you want here, pampers, formulas, pushers etc etc.
Regarding getting a job. I was going to say very difficult, but then I noticed your spouse has had work with NGO's before. What sort of work? That would certainly help. It does help to be on the ground as many jobs are word of mouth.

Hi Vientianeboy,

Many thanks for your answer. Her works has focused on labor and child labor and youth development at large for middle income and lower income countries. Is there a site with postings ? I hear you though on your point about things of that nature being based on word of mouth.

Hi .... i just happened to browse this site a while ago. Anyways , I would probably say it is not that easy to apply for an NGO here, as mostly they hire local people now , but your spouse can take her chances knowing that she'd some experiences working w/ NGO's before. Most of my expat friends have applied online / made few inquiries of NGO's here in Laos. Maybe she can do the same as well.

As for the raising your child - not so much supplies or choices here in Laos for Diapers , Toiletries , Baby Clothes , Food - but you can always go to Nongkai or Udon Thani , Thailand - w/c is an hour or two drive from Vientiane to buy all you need for your baby. There are only few shops here where you can get good stuffs - not to worry , you & your family will be able to live by here .

GOOD LUCK!
