Hello

I am trying to find out about getting an ex-pat banking job in Vilnius.

I have 10 years of offshore finance experience under my belt, over 5 of which are with major private banks specialising in compliance and money laundering.

Unfortunately, I speak VERY little Lithuanian but any advice etc will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

The majority if not all banks in Lithuania are foreign owned. Generally they employ no foreigners at all, not even from the parent bank. There is at least one offshore legal office, Finreda, that might be able to foresee some possibility of working in this area in Lithuania. They do speak English there so calling or writing is not a problem.

If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, I would suggest that you start your own business. As someone who lived in Vilnius and attempted to get a job without Lithuanian citizenship or Lithuanian fluency, I would say it's very difficult to make a living there. Unless you try to get a job with a U.K. company, but even then, they usually hire the executive in the native country and transfer him. And even if you teach English, you will need a supplemental income if you want to do anything outside of sleeping and eating.

Just me two cents.

Much success to you!
