Hello Martyn - I would not recommend moving to Lithuania. There are very few companies that do business in English, and you will find almost no possibilities for employment if you do not speak fluent Lithuanian. Most expats here exist by giving English lessons - and you might find a job teaching English - but I would strongly advise against moving here for many other reasons also. It may be a nice place to visit, but the barriers you will run into trying to live here will beat you down. Lithuanians like tourists and their money, but the government and their true attitudes are very negative towards emmigrants.

Hi,
I believe Rikmo is from the US. As an EU citizen, you should have expedited clearance. I have not heard about what problems EU citizens have encountered. I took Lithuanian citizenship years ago before Lithuania joined the EU and dropped out of that loop.

You can also work as an editor, but Vilnius is probably the place for that. Other than that, it is going to be challenging getting a job. Too many failures in the past. Loud-mouthed American comes over, says we are doing it all wrong, tries futilely to make changes, becomes frustrated with the lack of progress, and goes home in a huff. I tried volunteering at our local school and was rejected. Of course, part of the problem may also be that they don't want someone to show them up.

If you want help with expedited Lithuanian lessons, drop me a line privately.

Hello,

I'm American, but I used to live in Vilnius. I tried to do the same thing as you, but I tried to work with American companies. The only thing with that is that they hire locals/natives for the majority of their positions.

Do you have an entrepreneurial spirit? Do you have much money saved up? Have you ever thought of starting your own business in Lithuania? Or can you do consulting?

Or perhaps you could get a job in the UK that would allow you to work in Lithuania? Or you could represent a UK-based company in Lithuania? Perhaps you could convince a UK company to establish a subsidiary in Vilnius and you would take all the necessary steps to get it going?

Just some ideas...Also, most people in the business world in Vilnius can speak English or they're in the process of doing so.

Much success!
Jennifer
