hi everyone, I live in Jurbarkas, Taurage County, 90km WNW of Kaunas. Me and my wife Rima, are settled here for Life. We live in a lovely town on the banks of the River Naumanas surrounded by amazing countryside. We have many good Lithuanian friends here so our life is great. As an Englishman apart fro the language there are many things to learn. Its taken me 6 months but Im getting there. Next year Ill add Lithuanian to my english and fluent german. My Wife is an independant English and Russian Teacher, Me I work as a business and property consultant and do voluntary work developing local tourist initiatives to help promote the region. If you speak english then it would be great to hear from you as there are no native english speakers within 50 miles of me. If you need advice on living in Lithuania then please drop me a line.

Hi although Lt is far cheaper to live than uk, average salarys in Lt far out weigh that benefit My only advice would be to start your own business, but that would involve initial cash, time and risk depending on your experience cash flow and patience

1) Learn to speak Lithuanian
2) Accept that you will have a much lower wage than in the UK, no matter what your profession
3) Accept that in many areas employment practises have not caught up with the rest of Europe
4) Be prepared to work harder than most English people have to work
5) Don't be too choosy about what you do

Smfergusson... totally agreed. My wife is Lithuanian and she would not go back to live because of the employment scenario... me however i work from home and from our Kaunas home in the summer. As long as I have this job, for. Me on my UK salary, it's great. As you say, to live there like a local,it would be a new mindset.
