Teaching English in Lithuania

Hello, I want to move to Lithuania come next year as an English teacher in Kaunas or Vilnius. I am a masters graduate with a TEFL certificate and I have visited both cities many a time and have a lot of friends there. However, my friends can't help when it comes to how I would go about finding a job as an English teacher! I am not sure when schools would be hiring, what type of schools I could perhaps work for etc.

To clarify, I am actually genuinely enthusiastic to teach English, I haven't completed the qualification just so I can party around the world or something. I also really like Lithuania and I am fully aware of cost of living etc, I am also learning Lithuanian. I just really would love help from absolutely anyone. Please no 'you're crazy to move here' posts or something, I've heard them all by now :D

Thanks

I don't, I am currently learning but I won't be nearly fluent enough to teach in Lithuanian. My qualification is to teach English by only speaking English, so to students who have a base level of knowledge. I am also a masters graduate in Philosophy specialising in Language :/.

Sorry, to add another thing, I am also interested in courses in teaching English in Lithuania itself (CELTA, TESOL etc), if anyone might know of something.

I'm a Lithuanian-American who is interested in teaching English in Lithuania. Any pointers. Can I take the TEFL in Lithuania or is it better in the USA? Comments?

Aš tikiu, Amerikos lietuvi?, kurie domisi mokytis angl? kalbos Lietuvoje.

hi steve, myself and my wife teach english here in Lithuania to ages from school to adults needing english for business. Are you aware of salaries here? Many school teachers also teach privately. The TEFL I think is in vilnius where cost for accommodation etc are now very high. Maybe you should do the TEFL in the USA and do a lot of research before deciding to teach in LT. This way you will have a choice of countries. TEFL teaching is done by nost as a way of seeing the word for free so dont expect to get a great salary. The best positions pay $1000 a month with accomodation and insurance. Senior teachers here in school get 2400LT maximum. Drop me a line if you want to know more. Or maybe you should teach english in chicago to lithuanians?

You have received so many warnings, so I guess you may have a partner here that is encouraging you. Based on years of experience here you should avoid this place. Think for a moment - Why do so many want to leave?

I am an American living in Lithuania and quite happy here. Rikmo should just leave if he is so miserable. As for the job situation, English teachers are needed here. Are you willing to live in Kaunas? Do you have housing available? Vilnus is probably saturated and the rest of the country needs good teachers. Everyone here wants to learn to speak English. Children are started in private schools at 5 years old. The work situation here has improved quite a bit since you started posting in 2012. The salaries are low country-wide but so is the cost of living. If you have a roof over your head, the salaries are adequate for comfortable living. If not, it could be tough. I would need more info to better help you. Email me privately if you are interested.
