Hey Everyone, My names Scott and I'm dual Citizen British/Australian. I was actually born in England and grew up in Australia. I currently work for an English company and work from home in Wales. I actually do Telesales so in theory could live and work any where. I am currently con sidering relocating to either Latvia, Lithuania or Czech Republic. I have briefly looked at some posts in this Forum and already have concerns about relocating to Lithuania. Do you actually have to ask permission to live there even if you have a British passport and Lithuania is part of the European Union. Also would I struggle without speaking any of the language?, I would be more than happy to do language classes upon relocation. Does anybody know if it si expensive or cheap to make calls to the UK from a Lithuanian Landline? If i'm working for a British company and living in Lithuania would I pay my taxes in Lithuania or teh UK... I know there is a 183 day rule and know I would stay there a minimum of a year if making the move... Any idea how much average furnished 1 bedroom flat is in Vilnius. Would I pay extra because i'm not local? Sorry I have so many questions but feel all of these questions are very important and no doubt I might think of a few more. Thanks Scott

landline calls using TEO are expensive most use skype accounts as LT has excellent internet, I also use VOIP, language is the oldest european tongue and not easy to learn beyond the basics..best way is to have a LT girlfriend to help you....they out number men here and are a better choice than a UK national......taxes you have to declare, register as self employed, 1 bed flat in vilnius...depends on suburb....from £250 plus £100 for untilities..http://www.aruodas.lt/

use the cost of living website that I gave you..consider suburbs of Prague on the local tram system for living. Lots of good looking Czechs also. Her in LT you have to be streetwise with a high level of confidence and european experience to get your head easily around everything.

Thanks Nigel, yes Im thinking that it might be easier for me to live somewhere that isnt as cold as Lithunania and I am not really street smart and without knowing people when I move there then I think it might be too far outside of my comfort zone. I am going to do some more research regarding Prague and also Riga. I agree I dont necessarily have to live in the centre of Prague if there is a good Tram/Train connection. Thanks Scott

for what it's worth, i'm in a similar situation to you..re. WFH. anyway, you's have to pay your taxes in Lt, if it's more than 183d...the 183 law/rule that you mentioned. on the plus side, tax in Lt. is good like the u.k....don't choke on your cup of tea matey..i live in the netherlands...we're thinking of going back to the u.k....for tax purposes. get yourself a good accountant. i use skype for my business. works better in kaunas than the Hague!! the internet/t.v. has come a long way in the seven year that i've being going there. i get fibre optic in our house. re. permission...officially as a U.K. citizen (with british passport etc.) you can live work anywhere in the E.U. living by the same laws as any local. however, in Lt...it's a law unto itself...Booh to E.U. directives...try registering your right hand drive car there! rent is CHEAP (by U.K. standards)!! you will get a nice flat in vilnius/kaunas for cheap money. food (local prod) is cheap and very good, the meat and veg. is top quality, no preservatives/irratiated etc. language...to speak it properly..good luck. it is what i call a "Complex" language. i speak french and spanish, Lt is much tougher. get yourself an Lt "friend". it helps. eating out, pubs, bars clubs etc. are very reasonable. my czech rep friend said it's cheaper in prague though and more advanced. i believe him.
for what you want, i think you won't have a problem...just be aware of follies and be streetwise. visit the fco web site.
let us know how it goes and good luck.

Of course everything is better if you know some of the language.
A land line? In Lithuania? Up to six months waiting time to have one installed... one reason why so many people have 2 or 3 mobile numbers.
About the -25 degrees... the number of days it gets that cold I can count on my fingers. Just look at the weather history online. It's not often that it even goes below -20, in Vilnius, anyways

hello mikas, i never knew it could take sooo long for a landline...one to be noted. my infrastructure there is always setup by my sister in law :-)
-25deg cent.....it's fun...personally beyond 15/-20....i don;tthink you really notice it. fishing on an ice lake...not bad. (Kauns R.)the only killer is the short days...that is the toughest part of winter there. at least you see the seasons. here in the netherlands and the u.k. . . .grey, wet, windy (in NL) ... miserable. rammy
