My wife and I are wondering "What are the mejority of people DOING for work in Lith?" Latvia has sproats, and the propaganda people for the U.S. claim there is some I.T. work, but Lith is so small, (not even as big as Indiana). It seems to be only tourists, pickles, and mayonnaise.

Majority of WHAT people? There is little work, if much of anything for a person who cannot speak fluent Lithuanian to do here that the locals aren't already competing for. This is a slowly shrinking country with little to offer in way of hope for anything. You may try to teach English here, but there's so many people already trying to do that, that there's really very little money in it. Even if you could land a job, the money would be so low you'd barely be able to scrape by, and employers here treat their employees very poorly, for the most part...

Not sure who this rikmo bloke is......in some ways he's right but in a lot he's dead wrong. Work is not easy to come by here but if you want to start your own thing, then it's pretty easy. Medical wise,.....it's common to give a small gift to the hospital staff but it's like a small box of chocolates or something, nothing out of the ordinary. I suspect that this rikmo character has had a bad experience and let it get the better of him. My suggestion, do your homework. I spent a year researching this country before I moved here and for me, it's the best decision I've ever made.

Just to correct some facts - Lithuania is a bit bigger and has a larger population than Latvia. And people are working everything from A to Z, like in most of the other civilized countries. My point is that if you think that we majority of population is fishermen or farmers, your are quite mistaken. There's no difference between Lithuania and Germany or France in this regard.
Regarding IT - Lithuania has indeed a quite strong position in this field - many strong, potential IT companies and lots of young skilled IT professionals in the market. Many world wide know companies have outsourced their IT operations to LT, like for instance Barclays.
Please don't mind "rikmo" - he's notorious on this website for his unbelievable extent of pessimism and negative attitude and opinion on all and everything that starts with the letters Lithuan.... I'm afraid the cruel fate might have indeed trapped him in some poor ventilated position at some "sproats" fish-farm... :-)

Hello Nerka, Just to correct some facts - "Lithuania is a bit bigger and has a larger population than Latvia." - What is that supposed to mean, Nerka? "My point is that if you think that we majority of population is fishermen or farmers, your are quite mistaken." - Nerka, nobody said this - this is your own idea of what other people think, and I don't think that is true. "There's no difference between Lithuania and Germany or France in this regard." - There is quite a bit of difference, actually, - please don't insult Germany or France.
"Regarding IT - Lithuania has indeed a quite strong position in this field - many strong, potential IT companies and lots of young skilled IT professionals in the market. Many world wide know companies have outsourced their IT operations to LT, like for instance Barclays." - We both know, Nerka, that the only reason Lithuania ever gets any attention from any business at all is because its labour is cheap. The jobs that are created here from most foreign investment are for labourers, not graduates.
"Please don't mind "rikmo" - he's notorious on this website for his unbelievable extent of pessimism and negative attitude and opinion on all and everything that starts with the letters Lithuan.... I'm afraid the cruel fate might have indeed trapped him in some poor ventilated position at some "sproats" fish-farm... :-) " - Sorry, Nerka, but I speak from many years of experience here in Lithuania, and if you think that I'm pessimistic or negative, then you'd better put a large percentage of Lithuania in the mirror, and see what it sees back. You don't get to be one of the Suicide Kings of the World by being positive, eh? And God forbid you should ever have to trust anyone here. Why do you think so many Lithuanians would love to leave, and are leaving their country? If only half of what you said is partially true, then why Nerka? By the way, "sproat's fish farm"? No - actually the only fish industry people I know here are Danish, and they don't like Lithuania either much, either.

Well that was very pessimistic for someone who wants to migrate. I say if you want to - why not move?
