I am a retired American. I have lved in Argentina legally for 12 years, as a tourist and bought an apartment. It is required that I leave the country within every 90 day period. Woud this option be available to me? This is how I can say that I have visited Skopje 3 times in recent years. It seems like the ideal place to live. I've done some research about moving, but I'm not sure about the requirements. I am single, in good health and am financially secure. I'd appreciate any info that can be given.

Hi,
I am happy to help. Please inform what kind of info do you need.
As I know Americans do not need any visa for Macedonia. As retired you can get Macedonian temporary identification card without any problems.
Flats in Skopje can be rented from $250 for single room apartment.
Food is cheap, people are nice, there are many things you can do in Skopje or Macedonia.
Can you inform what you were doing before retirement?
kind regards Igor

Thanks, Gjuro for your reply I have visited Skopje 3 times. The first time was so long ago, that there was a McDonalds. The most recent was last September. I hope to return soon. I read that a foreigner can get a long term visa to live in Macedonia if they real estate for 40,000 US dollars or Euros , almost the same amount. With rules and regulations changing so often, I'm wondering if this is still true? While it might not be too important later,I think that knowing expats, particularly from North America would be benificial at the start of living in Skopje. I'm wondering if there are any there and where would I find them? Money isn't my problem, procrastin-ating is.

Best bet is to contact the Macedonian embassy in the U.S. and ask. I do know you can enter on a tourist visa but would have to leave after 90 days and stay out for 90 days. Also Macedonia requires that if applying for residency you must do all that in your home country. They no longer allow people to come there and apply while there. I looked into it a bit and found they don't have a retirement visa, but have workarounds for 1 year at a time residency. From my research seems only Bulgaria has a specific retirement visa in the region.

Yes,
You can sign up for state health insurance or you can buy private health insurance from HI company. Any way you can be covered.
If you are not covered the prices are dirt cheap. For example - examination from a family doctor is like $5-6, Drug administration by health technician (injection) is $2-3 and examination from doctor specialist is like $15-$20...

Is it hard for a non-Macedonian to become a resident? Does residency include inexpensive healthcare? I cant find anything about this on the Mac govt website. Thanks ever so much! Frank
