" Hi there, Just a quick enquiry: my parents will be moving to Malaysia in the next couple of months, due to a business posting, what can they expect over there? My mum would definetly like to know what her life could be like out there, i.e. restrictions etc. Thanks for your time, Will "

" Where in Malaysia makes a big difference. So, where? Buy the Lonely Planet guide to Malaysia. Check the Malaysian site on the internet at http://directory.netscape.com/Regional/Asia/Malaysia. If you still have specific questions, I''ll be happy to discuss. Ed Hahn "

" There are no resitrictions on her. I am assuming you are thinking that this is a Muslim country right and are concerned about that? I have lived and worked here for three years, and it is the best posting I''ve ever had. The standard of living is high here for expats...nice condos with pools and facilities, great restaurants, moderately safe city (spate of break ins and pick pockets in the more upmarket parts of town). Malaysians are friendly. I am assuming you''re talking about a move to KL. The east coast is a bit different. Not to disparage Ed''s comment, but the LP guide for this conuntry is pretty crappy, especially if you plan to live here. If you have more direct questions email me directly. Lisa "

" Hello Will! Saw your note about your parent''s move to Malaysia...where will they be located? If they will be in Kuala Lumpur, let me know, as we are there at the present. A quick couple facts: Hot! Humid! English is seldom a problem. Modern shopping, including food items. Friendly people. Good restuarants. For those with school-age children, good schools! Similar problems that are reflected in large cities such as heavy traffic. A very laid-back culture which may present a problem for those type ""A"" people. Electric is 240. Very interesting mix of cultures. Easy to travel to favorite spots of Kangkawi, Phuket, the Highlands, Singapore etc. etc. Will have some frustrations, but minor ones. Very livable for expats! The WORST part is the long travel to Europe, Australia, America!! Hope this helps some...they will enjoy! Gracie Carder Malaysia "
