" My husband and I will soon be relocating to KL early next year. We currenly live in Hong Kong where we have been for almost 2 years. We just got back from a 4 day visit to KL to have a look around. While we were able to meet with some real estate agents and have a look around, there are still many questions that we have. If anyone can input on any of the following I would really appreciate it: 1) Best Living Location for Expats. 2) Best Club to join (golf-swimming) 3) Any info on Doctors, hospitals, dentists 4) Average cost of utilities-Electricity,Gas,Water,etc. 5) Security-safety 6)Average cost of a driver, domestic helper 7) Pet Import (small dog) 8) Taxes for US Citizens 9) Immigration procedures Sorry for the long list, but hopefully someone out there can help. My husband and I are both for the Southeast United States (Virginia). I would also be interested to hear from anyone from the US (or anywhere) who is living in KL now and would like to respond. Thanks "

Suggest you live in condos. Better security and convenience. Try Golden Triangle area or Ampang. Persiaran Raja Chulan is a small road off of Raja Chulan and it has a couple of very nice condos. Try looking at Tara Condos in Ampang. Girl doctors......Gene Woo at Ampang Hopsital. So much more......email me johannsbox@hotmail.com

" Some more pointers for you - 1) Best living location - Mont Kiara is the new favourite, replacing Bangsar - which has become a bit crowded. Two of the better International schools are in Mont Kiara. Lots of eating places, bars, pubs etc. The newly opened Mont Kiara Plaza has loads of eating joints and Starbucks! 2) Clubs - All condos have swimming pools. For Golf - Tropicana is nice. There are loads of golf courses around the KL area. 3) Good hospitals : Gleneagles (Ampang), Damansara Specialist (Damansara), Subang Jaya Medical Center (Subang), Pantai Hospital (close to Bangsar). 4) Utilities avg. cost - water, gas and electricity - should not cost more than RM 500 per month +/- RM 100 5) Security/Safety - has become an issue over the last couple of years. That''s the reason most expats prefer condos over houses. Besides condos come with full facilities. 6) Domestic help - foreign maid (indonesian or philipino) would cost about RM 400 - 600 per month. There is an upfront cost of about RM 2000 -3000, for processing and tickets etc. Some local help can be hired and would cost about RM. 6-10 per hour. Driver - no clue! 7) Pet import - sorry cannot help 8) US taxes - cannot help 9) Immigration procedures - well i could write a book on this, but they have improved in the last 2 years. Best to let employer handle this. Email me at sidrpm@hotmail.com with specific issues and I shall try my best to answer these. Hope some of this helps. Sid "

" We just repatriated back from KL(July 2000). If you have children, there are 2 American schools. Mon''t Kiara in Damansara and ISKL in Ampang. We lived in the Bangsar area and loved it. So much stuff happening all the time even if the kids went to Ampang for school and most of their friends lived there. No problem. Plenty of condo''s in both areas. Where you choose to live depends on your lifstyle or even school age kids. We had our pet dog, Snowball with us. Something to consider when hiring maids about treating your pet like family. Pet grooming and vet services are ok. I can give you name of groomer that makes house calls. Very nice guy. There is a big American Association in KL you can join as family and you''ll meet a lot of people/friends. There is so much more info... email me at da_witchy1@yahoo.com "
