" Hi, I just moved to KL at the end of August. It is a real paradise. I will be working here for two years and I would like to enjoy it as much as possible. If anyone has any information of clubs, activities, restaurants, interesting things to do, I would really appreciate to hear from you! "

" There is a great book (that is even up-to-date) by Lynn Witham about living in KL. It is actually part of the ""Culture Shock"" series, but I think the edition for sale here does not include that name in the title. Should have a red cover, paperback, and you can find it in the travel section at any MPH bookstore (best one is in MidValley Megamall). It''s got a list of all the clubs, activities, etc, plus a wealth of other great information. I think some of the national associations print their own books as well - I''ve seen one by the American Association, for example, but I think it is only available through them. There are too many restaurants to name... just start trying them! I''m sure there are a number of magazines or even just sections in the Star about restaurants, but we''ve never felt the need for any help. It can be difficult to find what you''re looking for. We never received a phone directory from Telekom, and I''ve never even seen one that wasn''t at least four years out of date! There is also a website at www.expat.com.my... it''s kind of pathetic and unfinished, but it has a few bits of information. I hope this helps! Welcome to KL! Jen "

Hi Jen To get a new phone book you take your phone bill to Telekom and request one. It might be a good idea to ring first to check if they have any stock or when the next edition is going to be released. Telekom don''t deliver the books when you get the phone installed or when a new edition comes out..it is totally up to the subscriber to collect it themselves. Cheers Helen

" Hi Rita, the book suggested by Jen is a great source of info. As for clubs, there are many to suit most interests, and it really depends on how much you want to spend on a joining fee. For a family, one certainly worth checking out is Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Club, which has excellent facilities. As for restaurants, there''s an annual publication from The Tatler, called ""Malaysia''s 100 Best Resaurants"", usually available from places like MPH Bookstore or Times Bookshop. This also gives star ratings, which may be a bit subjective, but is at least a guide. If you''re adventurous and are willing to try local food, I would suggest you start out with one or two of the mamak (Muslim Indian) restaurants before venturing to the stalls. Most of these are more than happy to guide you as to the best of their very cheap dishes, and to advise which are ""pedas"" (hot) or not. Enjoy your stay in this great city. "
