moving to petaling jaya

Hi,
I will be moving to petaling jaya in less than 3 weeks. I am soooo scared! I met my husband in college and we quickly got married here in the us. He is malaysian- chinese. We haven't done as well financially as I had hoped- I stay at home with our 1 year old, I have a 7 year old boy also.

I found out last year that his family owns a large business in KL. His father thought it would be best for us to move to KL. I dont want to see my husband continue to work so hard here with little chance for moving up in the company he works for. So I agreed to move to petaling jaya.
I am a free lance designer...I dont make much money.

We have a condo that is paid for...new...3 bedroom 2 baths but small. My husband will only be paid 1500RM a month to begin with...half of that will go to my son's tuition fees for school.

can someone give me an honest opinion on what to expect. Am I making a mistake?

we make about 3,000 per month here, but the economy is bad..I cant find a job and he cant move up.

over there he will be working at a place where he has a great future. but I worry about my son. he will have to learn malay, and get used to a new place. I will take him away from his grandmother and his cousins. I feel extremely guilty.

and I worry about our quality of life on a 1500RM salary.

Dear Margaret,
First of all, Malaysia is a cheaper country compared to US however a RM1,500 salary is indeed low especially with children and housewife. It is not going to be easy for you. The language, the pace and the sudden influence of his family members as well as the fact that you may live in a non-expat area will come crashing on you and there will be break downs.
Be ready to face facts that things may not get better, it might be worse but on the other hand, he will have the support of his family and perhaps even financial support which will be of great importance to you both right now. I am travelling right now but if you want more privacy and a shoulder to cry on or just ventilate, email me at svenskgravadlax@yahoo.com and I'll try to email as often as I can.
