Hi, I'm moving from canada and I wanted to know if I should bother shipping my furniture over. What are prices like there? Is there a website that can tell me what lifestyle there is really like?

any tips are appreciated.

There is an excellent range of furniture available in Malaysia, and as it is made locally, the prices are very much cheaper than in Europe where I come from, so I guess they are much cheaper than Canadian prices also.

We are actually furnishing a new apartment just now and are amazed at how reasonable everything is - in contrast, our older daughter in UK furnished her new house two years ago and spent a small fortune on furniture. Friends from Scotland have come recently and gutted an apartment, filling it with newly covered floors and walls and fantastic furniture. It could well be featured in an English "Homes and Garden" magazine!

So - don't bother taking furniture to Malaysia (unless you have fantastically good stuff that has sentimental value [and your employer is paying for the shipment!!!})

Good question re the "lifestyle" - perhaps I should post some pictures on my web site. I will work on that, as I see your point about wondering how people live inside their houses here.

regards, Donald

Hey there!
Have you moved from Canada already?

On moving furniture, I generally disagree with it, if it's in your means to buy them when you're here. Chances are, they'd be cheaper re-buying than shipping.. though it depends on your taste in furniture and its value to you (sentimental etc). There's always an Ikea here.. if that's something you'd consider.

What else? I would say, if you play ice hockey.. (and excuse my generalization), do bring your gear! Buy extra tape and a puck helps. There's a growing ice hockey club out here, and alot of expats (yes, lotsa candians) play. I'm just a novice as I picked up ice hockey a year before moving to KL (and I've been in KL for about 2yrs now), but it's been great fun playing here. If though, you want to consider picking it up here.. think about buying used or new gear and shipping it out here! :)

Anyway, if you're already here, hope you're having fun KL :)
Best wishes,
Maisie
