Hi all, i'm going to be married in about a year to a lady from Selangor. Anyone know of pitfalls or red-tape that will stop me living in Malaysia permanantly. Found the government site really confusing. Would greatly appreciate any advice, thanks

Yes, you will be entitled to long term visas, namely the spouse dependent visa. It is only issued for one year and renewed on a yearly basis. There is enormous red tape here especially if you are married to a muslim. You would have to register with the Religious Dept. within 6 months of entry and with the Registrar of Marriage if not a muslim. You will only lbe eligible for the spouse program if your wife has an income in Malaysia or if you have a job in Malaysia. Otherwise, you will just get a normal tourist visa allowing you to stay a month - 3 months depending on the passport you hold. Without a dependent's visa or work permit, you would have to do visa runs like everyone else in the same situation. Good luck.
