I'm a single middleaged US male returning to Malaysia early May, staying through July 05. Plan to explore greater KL area with expatriation in mind. Seeking budget hostel, motorcycle rental, new friends. Also sponsor for My Second Home program and entry level bungalow purchase information.

I arrived in KL 3 May, found a budget hostel in a good central location (near Masjid Jamek in downtown KL): Le Village offers single rooms for 20 MR (3.75MR/US$), must walkup 2 flights of stairs, fans, shared shower/toilet, basic kitchen use. There are NO motorcycle rentals in KL. Light rail transit system is superb; tickets from 1-6 MR. Trick is to get to LRT stations...feeder buses run infrequently--and walking more than a few blocks is difficult.

Hi.,hope this doesn't come too late.An entry-level bungalow in Petaling Jaya,Old town,Sections 1-3 starts from say,Rm 300 000.You can get one from Bukit Beruntung,Rawang,for about 250 000-300 000 but the location isn't too good.

Thanks, Owl. PJ was my fave area. My RE agent looked for months in SE area, and could not find anything in that price range. I also did not care for Rawang. So I went back to Penang...but prices there were ridiculous (think Chinese speculators) despite poor market after tsunami.

I return to Malaysia in Nov 05, and plan to visit Sabah. Was told residential properties there are more affordable (I;m on a fixed income). Would like to connect with experienced expats in Kota Kinabalu or surrounding areas. Rural land suitable for gardening appeals to me.
